about two days ago, my brother, helmy and i, played soccer at farrer park.. all of us had a good game... we were up against some middle-aged folks who were slow but very experienced with the ball... so i really had a good game. anyway, we stopped when it got dark... and the three of us went to a small lane where we cleaned ourselves...
helmy knew most of the uncles there so he was always talking to them at the other side of the lane... n one particular uncle asked him what school is he in... "Ngee Ann Poly" was his reply... another question came up which is wat course is he in.. "Mechanical Engineering".... now me and my brother, hafiz, are still cleaning up.. when the same uncle asked helmy what course are we in.... the answer is "Nursing"... there was a SHOCK reaction from him and the others around him... n he continued "well, its ok to be a nurse... but dun be a gay" n they started laughing among themselves....
it doesnt really bother me coz i knew that some ppl always drew a line on how men or women should choose their jobs.... but i would like to suggest that these ppl should leave this outdated mentality and perhaps face reality that every men and women can be whatever they want to be....
that is why, i can bravely say that parts of the malay society are still afraid to make choices... fearing what ppl will say to them... fear that they will lose face... i think if u have fear, den u'll be stuck to the ground, afraid to move forward when ppl all around who are NOT afraid will move forward and shape their future...
im happy with what i chose to be...
